Job Description

What does Westar & Patterson Cheney's Truck Apprenticeship look like?

Westar Trucks houses leading Truck Brands such as Isuzu, Western Star, MAN and Dennis Eagle. In particular, Isuzu Trucks has been the market leader in Australia for the last 30 years and continues to lead the Australian truck market with its range of models.
 
The Westar & Patterson Cheney Apprentice Academy is the future of our business. We offer industry-leading training and development to ensure that all Academy Graduates have the knowledge and skills for a successful and rewarding career in the heavy vehicle industry.
 
Trucking is one of the most stable industries where people can start their careers. Trucks are always in constant need to transport and service industry.

As a heavy vehicle apprentice, we will provide you with all the necessary training, experience and support to develop into a fully qualified heavy vehicle technician.

  • You will undertake a Certificate 3 in Heavy Vehicle Commercial Mechanical Technology (AUR31116)
  • Your training continues beyond the classroom, with continuous on-the-job and national Original Equipment Manufacturer training.
  • State-of-the-art facilities, including the latest computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Opportunities to represent Patterson Cheney Trucks at National and International Competitions.
  • Be rewarded for your hard work as a valued workshop team member.

Desired Skills and Experience

Who are we looking for?

  • Completed a Cert II in heavy vehicle automotive
  • Completed or currently completing Year 12, VCAL or pre-apprenticeship program.
  • Have a current driver's licence (Preferred).
  • Ambitious, reliable and well-presented.
  • Motivated, eager to learn and committed to completing a 4-year apprenticeship term.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems with a desire to learn.
  • A strong understanding of safety in the workplace.
  • Available to commence in January 2026.
